Scholarship Report – Tina Young

With the Scholarship season ending on January 1st, state chairs had their work cut out for them.  This year the MWA had a Grand Total of 59 Scholarship Applicants.  We awarded two Scholarships at the MWA level this year.  Travis Oliver from Wisconsin won in the Traditional Category and will be awarded a $1500 scholarship.  Kassidy Maierhofer from Illinois is our winner in the Open Continuing Education category and will be awarded a $250 scholarship.  There were numerous applications received from each state and the  number is broken down as follows:

Illinois – 6 total applications received.  4 Traditional and 2 Open Continuing.  All applicants were found eligible by the state Membership Chair.  2 of the applications received didn’t have all the supporting documents and were unable to be judged.

Iowa – 12 total applications received.  9 Traditional and 3 Open Continuing.  1 applicant was found to be ineligible by the state Membership Chair.  5 of the applications received didn’t have all the supporting documents and were unable to be judged.

Michigan – 4 total applications received. 3 Traditional and 1 Associate Member.  1 applicant was found to be ineligible by the state Membership Chair.  All supporting documents were received for applications eligible to be judged.

Minnesota – 3 total applications received.  3 Traditional.  All applicants were found eligible by the state Membership Chair.  2 of the applications received didn’t have all the supporting documents and were unable to be judged.

Ohio – 8 total applications received.  5 Traditional and 3 Open Continuing.  All applicants were found eligible by the state Membership Chair.  1 application didn’t have all the supporting documents and was unable to be judged.

Wisconsin – 9 total applications received. 7 Traditional and 2 Open Continuing.  1 applicant was found to be ineligible by the state Membership Chair.  1 application didn’t have all the supporting documents and was unable to be judged.

The numbers are fantastic for each state.  I have been notified by each state that the judging process has been completed and the Area winners have been selected and sent to the National Level.  Area level notification has been sent to all applicants.  I am still finalizing information with our Area Winners, so I will be sending your Area Certificates in the mail.

Thank you to all the state chairs for bearing with me as I learned this process.  All your hard work is very much appreciated.

Respectfully Submitted

Tina Young, MWA Scholarship Chair
